STEWARDSHIP - Introduction

The parish is working to develop Stewardship and these special pages on our website provide an introduction to the topic. There is a separate Navigation section at the bottom of each of these pages - going through the pages in the order listed below will provide an overview of the topic. The final page of Downloads provides additional information, including two forms for you to print and a booklet to read online.

What is stewardship? Well, it is not a programme, or a scheme: it is a way of life, a way, one way, of living as mature baptised Disciples of Christ, offering all of our gifts and talents for His work.  As stewards of everything given to us by God we have a duty to use our gifts wisely and for the benefit of everyone. Stewardship is at work throughout the Universal Church, and elsewhere in this section there are links to organisations and resources which may help you to understand more.

Like most around the country, as a parish community of the 21st Century we face and will continue to face numerous challenges in a time of change and transition for the Church. Church practise today is vastly different to that of only 15 years ago. At the turn of the millennium Pope John Paul II in acknowledging this change, particularly in Europe, urged parish and diocesan communities to be prepared to take risk in the spreading of the Gospel, to “put out into the deep…and…let us go forward together in hope”. Yet have we truly heard this message and tried to respond?

What is it that the Lord is asking of us today? How are we to continue the work He has entrusted to His Church at this time? One challenge is to acknowledge God’s gifts to us, and to do so with thanksgiving and gratitude. A second is to use our unique and God-given gifts to the full. Whatever God has given us is given to be shared, equally and fairly, to bring others to the love and the word of God.

In October 2006 we began our stewardship journey, and in early 2007 all of our community members were invited to commit themselves to offering their gifts for our parish mission. You can follow the process through the information in this section, and if you want to know more or become involved, please contact us.
